God's Limitless Reach

God's Limitless Reach

July 10, 2017

S Micah 6:5 b  "...and remember your journey from Acacia Grove to Gilgal, when I, the Lord, did everything I could to teach you about my faithfulness."

O. God calls Israel to remember their journey, a journey in which HE blessed them with favor and protection against the enemy (Balak of Moab). The enemy wanted to curse them and ultimately destroy them, yet God protected and blessed them.

I love this verse! God says "I did everything I could to teach you."  Wow! I am calling this "God's limitless reach."  I can't even get my mind wrapped around that.. God did everything He could.. Does that imply He has a limit? It actually implies that God extended to Israel his "righteous acts" (kindness, mercy, faithfulness, grace). God's reach to His people is limitless. He desires so much for His people to know Him, that He continues to reach out. Many times He has to reach beyond, over, around, through, our sinful disobedience, but He does. His reach is limitless.. We have a Limitless God .. not just in the creation of all things but in the reconciliation of His people.. bringing us back into relationship with us.

A. I will continue to wait upon Him.. I will continue to trust in His plan and be open to His teaching me. He certainly has pulled out "all stops" and desires for me to learn and know just now faithful He is. He is limitless in His desire and in His reach.

P. Thank you Father that you do all you can (which I can't comprehend) to help me see just how faithful you are.  Grant me strength and patience and power to help others realize your limitless reach.

Where Do You Get Your Energy ?

People often remark or make comment about my energy level being very high! It is true, I seem to have extremely high energy. Many years ago when I worked in the private sector, my office was across the hallway from the VP of Manufacturing and a good friend of mine. He also had a lot of energy. We would joke about the two of standing side by side.. His energy was always sort of idling in once place while mine took me all over the place.  With that, people often comment, "where do you get your energy from?"

My answer is two fold. First, by my nature, I'm an early morning person and extremely positive. My glass is often near full to overflowing. However, as I've pastored now for the past 23 years, the energy level that keeps me going and moving forward comes from the Lord.

Paul speaks of this in Philippians 2:12-13 as he writes, "...work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and power to do what pleases Him."

Paul writes and encourages believers to work hard so people can see the results (fruit, harvest) of the new life in Christ Jesus. Our lives should be characterized by obedience to the Lord as we serve Him with deep reverence and fear (awe).  The scripture is very clear that as we obey Him, He works in us and gives us the desire and power to do what pleases Him.

I think I am safe in saying that sometimes we (as people) don't always feel like we have the energy to go another day, or that we always desire to do that which pleases Him. We might even complain about our energy level being less than sufficient to do His work.  But His word is clear, if we will work hard in obeying Him, He gives us that desire and power (also from the word energy) to do the things that please Him.

The word that the NLT translates "work hard" is the Greek word katergázomai and it means "work, accomplish" – literally, "work down to the end-point," i.e. to an exact, definite conclusion (note the prefix, 2596 /katá); bring to decisive finality (end-conclusion) - Strongs' Concordance

Like many things in the Christian life, it begins with faith. Faith that God will honor His word. As we are determinative to work hard and finish the work God has for us, He gives us more energy to do more. But what I find is that people who lack energy (and I have my times too believe it or not) are those who either slumber too much (no mind over mattress) or others who get caught in "memory lane" (living in the past, or pausing too long in the "good ole days).  The thing we need to do is to throw ourselves into the work of the Lord (Bible reading, journaling, sharing our faith, mentoring others or serving through random acts of kindness). When we do these things that please God, He gives us more energy and more desire to do even more.

Where do I get my high energy level? The energy that I have comes from the Lord because I have determined today to obey Him and to attend to His agenda, not my own.

Thanks you Lord for your love and great grace. I desire others to see from my life that your salvation is productive and truly gives us a better life. I pray that as I, in faith, step up and out to obey you that you will continue to product your energy in my life.

Don't Work On Your Weaknesses

S. 1 Timothy 4:14a, 15-16a  "Do not neglect your gift...Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch our life and doctrine closely."

O. Paul encourages Timothy to use his pastoral gift and to thoroughly give himself to that work. People watch our lives and it is good that they see progress in us - so Timothy is to make sure his life and teachings are sound.

I like the teaching by Paul and encouragement for Timothy to give himself wholly to his giftedness. God gives us gifts (which I understand to be our strengths) and He desires us to use those gifts, in fact, we are to give ourselves completely (wholly) to them.

There are some who think we should work on our weaknesses, possibly with the goal to be well rounded, which sounds good. However God gives us gifts that we should use and Paul says to Timothy to give yourself to your gifts "wholly." God gives us gifts (what I also would call strengths in the spiritual area, things that we are simply good (gifted)) and these gifts are to be used to expand the kingdom and build up other believers.

If we are working on our weak areas, then we're not giving ourselves wholly or completely to our gifts. Also, working on our weaknesses sort of precludes trying to having anyone else involved in our life, almost a selfishness.

However, if we use our gifts we then need to have other people around us who are strong where we are weak. Working on strengths means that we need others, we need other members of the body of Christ to carry out the functions and gifts God has given to them.

A. So let's work on our strengths and depend upon others in the advancement of the Kingdom. I am encouraged by this word to stay at my pastoral gifts, (continue to work at, sharpen the saw) and make sure my life and teaching are solid.

P. Thank you Father for the reinder and encouragement to continue in my calling with balance and sound teaching.
