God's Heart Is For Those Far From Him

Today our thoughts go toward praying for the lost.. praying for those who have not yet received Jesus Christ as their Savior..

Salvation is God’s greatest desire.

1)  Reaching the Lost was Jesus’ mission.

Luke 19:10

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

2)  Reaching the Lost is the heart of God.

Luke 15:4-7

4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

God’s heart is going after even just 1. He doesn’t desire any to perish.

3)  Reaching the Lost should be our mission.

Matthew 9:37-38

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

May we at Better Life Church be the workers and may God send more to reach the lost in our community.

Pray that the Father would draw them to Jesus.

John 8:44

44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

God loves these more than we do. Pray and place them in God’s hands and that God will do a work in their lives.

Pray that God would blind the spirit that blinds their minds.

Acts 26:18

18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Pray that God would loose the Spirit of Adoption on those that don’t yet know Him.

Romans 8:15

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.”

Pray that people would see not just the church or religion, but they would see Jesus.  Pray that God might use us in this way.

Matthew 9:38

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Pray that God would loose the Spirit of Revelation and Redemption.

Ephesians 1:17

17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

God Prepares People to Meet Prepared People

Pray with expectation – believing God will answer, lead, guide and direct.

The book of Acts has some amazing teachings.

One teaching I see (not only in Acts but all throughout the Bible) is the teaching or idea that God prepares people to meet prepared people.

God prepares people (you and me) through experiences, gifts and calling to meet prepared people (people that He is reaching out to or that are reaching out to Him based upon their experiences in life).

In the 8th chapter of Acts, a Ethiopian Eunuch is reading a scroll from Isaiah 53. He is not understanding it. He needs someone to explain it to him. God speaks to one of the disciples, Phillip, and sends him to this Ethiopian leader, who is being prepared in his heart to receive God’s word. Phillip arrives, shares, and the Ethiopian receives Christ as his Savior, is baptized and receives the Holy Spirit.  God uses prepared people to meet prepared people.

In Acts 9, a man named Saul is persecuting Christians. The Lord Jesus reveals himself to Saul and Saul receives Christ as his Savior.  At the same time there is a disciple in Damascus named Ananias whom the Lord speaks to. Ananias received this word from the Lord, and brought Saul to Damascus where he laid hands on Saul (who had been blinded) and Saul received back his sight and was baptized.

In Acts 10 a Roman army official named Cornelius, had great respect for God, helped to provide resources to the poor and prayed regularly. I believe while praying, he received a vision and word from the Lord to send for Simon Peter.

At the same time, in Joppa, Simon Peter is praying and through that prayer, the Lord speaks through a vision and shares with Peter that Peter needs to go and share Christ with Cornelius.  Cornelius is a Gentile and would be considered unclean by Jews; however God, through the vision, let’s Peter know that which was previously unclean is now clean... i.e. it’s ok to go to Cornelius.

Peter goes to Cornelius, shares Christ, Cornelius receives Christ as Savior, receives the Holy Spirit and is baptized.

God uses prepared people to meet prepared people.

I believe that there are people God is preparing right now for me or you to reach... and He wants to do this through the gifts, experiences and calling He has given to us. There are people in my church who can reach others that I cannot because of specific gifts, experiences and calling that God has for them.

It all begins with prayer. Praying and being open to let God use us (as He has prepared us) to reach those whom He has prepared for that moment.

Therefore, as we continue to be people who pray, may we be people who pray with their eyes wide open, hearts to heaven, and are looking for others whom we can reach, whom God has quite possibly prepared for us.

Pressing Through - God is the God of the Breakthrough - 2 Samuel 5:17-20

The Revelation of Breakthrough

“Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.” (Jeremiah 33:3, MSG)

This blog is your shake-it-up prayer strategy and it will be as unique as you are. How the Holy Spirit will direct and motivate you is for you to discover.

The way you interact and the way you express yourself through prayer, meditation, fasting, and journaling are completely your choice. However, we can’t encourage you enough to set your intentions and do something each and every day.

In 2 Samuel 5:20, we read, “So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. ‘The LORD did it!’ David exclaimed. ‘He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!’ So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means ‘the Lord who bursts through’)” (NLT).

David is describing the natural power of water when it is released from limiting confines. When water breaks out of its banks, or bursts from behind a dam, great power is displayed as the water washes away everything in its path. David describes the power of God in a similar way because when God unleashed His power, there was nothing that could stop it.

Before the breakthrough, the scene in the scripture is called “Valley of Rephaim,” meaning, “House of the Giant.” After the breakthrough, it is called “Ba’al Perazim,” meaning, “Possessor of Breaches, Lord of the Breakthrough.”

Why was this place renamed after Ba’al, a god of the Philistines, and not after the Lord? Because it was to be a reminder that at this place, the enemy thought he was the strongest. So David called it “Baal Perazim,” declaring God broke through the stronghold of the enemy!

There is breakthrough for you and it begins as you enquire of the Lord. He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).  That’s why you are being active in prayer and the Lord of the Breakthrough will reward you with His strategy!

Let’s think about what your breakthrough looks like. You may have thought that the first place breakthrough would be evident is in your outside world.  Our first conceptions of “dreams come true” include direct answers to prayer regarding relationships, family, health, promotion, and finances.  It’s God’s intention to release answers to every single one of these prayers, and you will enjoy the benefits of breakthrough, but it doesn’t start there.

True and lasting breakthrough starts in your heart, the very core of who you are and what you believe. If you find it hard to feel God, or if you feel numb, you are called to draw near to Him. But sometimes disappointment and harsh realities in life can cause us to develop a degree of hardness around our heart. The first breakthrough that we must encounter is described in Ezekiel 36:25. God is speaking and says, “I will give you a new heart with new desires. I will take your heart of stone and give you a soft heart of flesh.”

One of the words for “hardness of heart” in Greek is “sklerokardia,” which means “destitute of spiritual perception.” Our natural mindedness must be “broken through” for revelation to be released. Without that, our minds remain darkened. A veil blinds every Christian who fails to seek the Lord until revelation breaks through.  But that’s not you. Let’s agree that today is the day when the light is turned on.

The first step to a softened heart, that new heart that God talks about in Ezekiel, is humility.  A humble heart hears His voice, recognizes His call, and acknowledges that His thoughts and His ways are always the best.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves andpray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”(2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV)

Apply to Life:

Make a commitment to have a transformed heart.  Instead of just adding this to your list of“things to do,” allow God to bring lasting change to your life. Behavior modification only lasts as long as you remain self-controlled, disciplined, and motivated.  Transformation at the heart levelinvites a life of effortless victory where your day naturally invites God’s presence, His priorities and His rewards.

Write out your intentions for this week.

Repentance is simply changing the way you think. There is no doubt that you are about to embark on a journey toward more blessing, favour, and provision than you ever thought imaginable. God longs for your heart to have the character that is able to sustain an abundance of blessing.

The opposite of humility is pride, and pride shows its ugly face in many different disguises and masks:

*Presuming you know the best way for God to answer your prayer

*Being disappointed because God didn’t answer your prayer your way

*Being angry at God and blaming Him for tragedies

*Neglecting to pray (a prayer-less life is a pride-filled life)

Today, give Jesus your heart once again.  Humble yourself before Him, kneel before Him and ask Him to soften your heart, and remove any hardness that has built up. God has never left you, He is not disappointed in you, and He hasn’t held your sins against you. The act of repentance doesn’t turn God toward you – He never left you!  Repentance simply softens your heart to receive.

Write out your response to His love towards you.

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: ‘O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!’” (Matthew 11:25-26, NLT)

A childlike person is a dependent person. God shares His secrets with those who depend on Him and trust Him as a child trusts his father.

Write out your personal prayer of what this looks like in your life.
