S.O.A.P. 28 Day Challenge - Day #7, February 7, 2022 "Look Intently Upon Others & Watch God Work Miracles."

S. Acts 14:8-10 (NIV) 8 In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed 10 and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

O. This man in Lystra had never walked. It seems like this (walking) was something he greatly desired but had never experienced. He listened as Paul spoke. I am not sure of the exact content of Paul’s message, but presumably he was sharing how Jesus is truly the Messiah, the Savior of the world. The writer of Acts, Dr. Luke, states that Paul looked intently at this man and could recognize (perhaps discern is another word we could use here) that this man really believed he could be healed.

There’s a lot to unpack here. It says “the man had faith to be healed.” Luke is saying that this man really believed that Jesus could heal him. He had no doubt in his mind. He possessed this faith that Jesus could and would heal him.

Another take away, and perhaps the main idea of my blog is that Paul took notice of him. He looked intently or directly at him. I don’t know about you, but I have had times when I have noticed people who had some type of need and then I either looked away or walked away on to other things. Yet, if we will pause and notice others, maybe even walk towards that person and ask the initial question or the extra question, I believe we will witness God doing miraculous things. But we need to pause and take notice.

A. I have experienced this as well. Yes, I have had times when I looked away but I have also had other times when I took notice, asked the initial or extra question and witnessed God doing great things. This past weekend while preaching, I knew in my heart (discernment) that there was one who was on the cusp of asking Christ to be their Savior. At the conclusion of the message that person prayed to receive Christ.

I also had opportunity to pray with another person about a variety of needs. I prayed. We then talked a little more and I realized there was more clarity provided to me. I then prayed again with this person and the Lord gave us both a reassurance and a sense of His peace.

P. Thank you Father for your word today. Thank you Jesus for such a complete salvation (eternity, healing and deliverance). Holy Spirit, fill me and guide me to recognize these divine opportunities by looking intently upon others, asking the initial or extra question and then watching God do what only He can do. In Jesus name.

S.O.A.P. 28 Day Challenge - Day #6, "Don't Spin Your Wheels"

S. Acts 13:46-51 (NIV)

46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us:

“‘I have made you[a] a light for the Gentiles,
that you[b] may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’[c]”

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

49 The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 So they shook the dust off their feet as a warning to them and went to Iconium.

O. Paul and Barnabas tried to reach their fellow Jewish brothers and sisters for Jesus, but many of them would not listen. In fact, some of them opposed them and followed them, stirring up problems. This did not deter Paul or Barnabas. They continued! They knew their calling. The would not “spin their wheels” (aka they shook the dust from their feet) and would continue to proclaim Christ to those who would receive the message.

A. Sometimes I think that we (I know I do) have certain people in mind that should hear a certain message I am going to preach or that they are “prime” to receive the Gospel of Jesus. However after a while of their “rejection of the message or person of Jesus,” I need to move on and share Christ where there is “fertile soil”., i.e., hearts and minds that do wish to hear and learn more. So I will move forward as the Lord leads me and will not “spin my wheels” with those who have no interest. Perhaps in time, their receptivity will tune in better to possibly another time or another person’s message.

P. Thank you Father for your call in my life to preach the Gospel of Jesus and to teach your Word. Lord Jesus help me to not “spin my wheels” with those who have no interest. Instead help me to effectively minister to those who will listen. Holy Spirit fill me and guide me to be faithful and fruitful in sharing God’s Word. In Jesus’ name!

S.O.A.P. 28 Day Challenge - Day #5, February 5, 2022 "Be Alert To God's Leading"

Overall Text: Acts 12 It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.

Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.

11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”

12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”

15 “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”

16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. “Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this,” he said, and then he left for another place.

18 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. 19 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.

Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. 20 He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.

21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

24 But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.

S. Acts 12:24 “The Word of God ciontinued to spread and flourish.”

O. God’s word and message will not be bound. In this twelfth chapter of Acts, King Herod persecutes the church. He kills James and imprisons Peter. God miraculously releases Peter. Believers who are praying for Peter’s release could hardly believe their eyes and ears, that their prayers were being answered.

No matter the level of persecution by Herod, God’s word continues to spread.

A. If we will focus our thoughts on spreading the good news of Jesus and be aware of the divine appointments God has for us, He will use us to continue to spread His word. No matter how the enemy tries to keep us off balance, I will keep focused on praying, preaching, and teaching others the Gospel of Jesus and the truths of God’s Word.

P. Thank you Lord for your word today and for the encouragement and instruction to keep my eyes on the prize of proclaiming Jesus - and that your word will continue to spread. In Jesus’ name!
